I'm a huge fan of not washing my hair. Not just because I'm lazy and I like to lay in bed as long as possible, but also because I get the most compliments on my "healthy looking" hair on day 2 (or 3, or 4...).
Most of my clients complain that their hair feels too dirty or heavy, even on the same day of shampooing. As I know and understand not everyone can go a few days without shampooing, this is for the gals who want to try.
We all know shampooing our hair too often, especially with the wrong shampoo, can strip our hair of our natural oils, causing frizziness and overdrying. If you work out/sweat a lot and really like to just get it wet and restyle, cowashing is a great option. Instead of using a shampoo, use conditioner only. Just like normal days, but skip the shampoo.
Dry shampoos and light hairsprays can also be your new favorite addition to your bathroom counter. It's taken me months to try different dry shampoos to find one I love. When looking for the perfect dry shampoo for you, you want one that absorbs your scalp oil, doesn't build up, blends with your haircolor, and of course, smells great! Having darker hair at my roots, it's sometimes challenging to find one that doesn't make your hair look dusty. Enter my new favorite:
From the R+Co website on the ingredients: Rice Protein, sourced from Brazil, this protein moisturizes and improves hair’s elasticity. Vitamin E, rich in antioxidants, this ingredient strengthens and nourishes the hair, restoring luster and shine. Silica, this ingredient removes and absorbs excess oil. Pro-Vitamin B5, this conditioning agent thickens and builds volume.
The aroma is amazing and sometimes I even use it on shampoo day to hold my style a little longer.
Braids are also a dirty-haired girl's best friend. If you're like me, I get oily on my forehead while working, so I like to pull it of my face so my hair doesn't absorb more oil than needed.
This style takes less than a minute to do, and will guarantee compliments all day! I like to secure them with these guys-
Metagrip bobby pins. You can find them at Sally's Beauty supply, or I'm sure on Amazon.com. Again, I've tried many of brands of pins and these will last style after style. They're the only ones I trust in my updos to last all day (and night) long.
Blow dry your hair a little, even if it isn't wet. Spray Death Valley all throughout focusing on the roots. Part your hair a little deeper than usual and french braid the front until you get behind your ear. Crisscross two Metagrip bobby pins and let the rest of your hair fall over the pins. That way your braid disappears into your hair. I like to finish with a couple spritz of the Outer Space Flexible Hairspray by R+Co and out you go!
